Why We Do What We Do?

For Schools

The majority of schools in Cambodia rely on paper forms and Excel in managing administrative work and academic information.

That leads to difficulty and spending a lot of time and increases the workload for teachers and takes away their time focusing on teaching and supporting student engagement.

Without access to high-quality data on individual student performance, attendance, study record, and enrollment history which is essential for schools in Cambodia and linked to effective decision-making on all levels.

For Students

Hundred of thousands of Cambodian graduates yearly, face limited access to information and struggle to find their path to university.

Navigating through the Cambodian education system is a challenging affair, especially for people from marginalized communities with poor access to training and relevant skills. Lack of information about career options, the content of studies, entrance requirements, and scholarship opportunities can discourage people from seeking further study.

Relying on information from pieces of paper, friends, and family, who themselves had little opportunities and exposure to modern technology, young people are very limited in their choices and often end up frustrated.

Aren't We Afraid.....?

The undisputed & underserved sector in Cambodia & other emerging countries
  • We are convinced that access to information, advice, and support can help young people to make better-informed decisions and be more successful in life while 100+ thousand Cambodian graduates yearly still struggle to find their path to university.
  • In 2019, less than 15%(1) of youth in Cambodia were enrolled in tertiary while many of these education providers are not present online or outdated information, including challenges like missing or incorrect phone numbers. On top of that, there are variable entrance and eligibility requirements, tuition fees, and scholarship conditions.
A lot are untested
  • We have nailed a few key important milestones but can we do more?
  • 18 universities out of 46 in Phnom Penh (120+ countrywide) are our early adopter and the majority is private institutions that required more time and investment to accelerate go into public education.
  • There is no publicly available resource where students can find and compare information to make a well-balanced choice while Sala is building ONE.
We are doing something NEW
  • Lots of "legacy" institutions in our space will likely see us a threat to their business.
  • We make a lot MISTAKES, try and fail and learn as quick as possible.
